Running Bento as a service, AI Code Tools

Bento Agency Implementation, Multi-Agent Orchestration for Delivery Teams

Learn how to set up Bento for your AI development agency to monitor 3+ concurrent coding agents across tmux sessions, configure SSH workflows for remote agent management, and build productized services around parallel agent orchestration. This course covers agent state detection setup, mobile monitoring for client handoffs, and pricing models for agent-as-a-service delivery.

Monthly tool cost
Bento is open source (Apache-2.0) with no published paid plan; vendor cost basis is $0. Any agency investment is internal labor for setup and client onboarding, which the agency must price from its own rate card.

Is Bento worth running as a client service?

The evidence supports Bento as a free, open-source, privacy-preserving terminal for monitoring and voice-controlling multiple coding agents over SSH and tmux, with native Mac/iPhone/iPad clients and no account requirement. What remains unproven is agency commercial viability: there is no published paid tier, no white-label or multi-account capability, and no sourced market rate for managed Bento services, so client pricing and ROI must be derived by the agency from its own cost and rate data.

An agency-fit judgement for reselling this service. It is separate from the tool description on the decision record.

Before you start

What has to be in place before the first client engagement.

Tools and subscriptions

  • Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14+ (Intel Macs are explicitly not ideal)
  • Host machine with tmux installed (macOS, Linux, or WSL) reachable over plain SSH
  • One or more supported coding agents installed (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Cursor Agent, Copilot CLI, Amp, OpenClaw, Hermes, or Antigravity)
  • Populated ~/.ssh/config for one-click host access
  • Optional: Tailscale for remote host reachability, and Ghostty or iTerm2 as complementary terminal tooling

People and inputs

  • Reference documentation for core functions: parallel pane monitoring, live state detection, voice input, file browsing/preview, pane moving/duplication, and scrollback search
  • A test tmux layout with at least two agent panes to validate working/waiting/done-unread/idle state detection before client rollout
  • Time for medium-complexity onboarding (setup_complexity: medium; published time_to_value: hours) before client-facing handoff
  • Theme and font assets if matching client visual environment is required
