Platform Features

Core capabilities of Dessa

Full-duplex speech-to-speech inference

Conducts real-time two-way voice conversations without converting speech to text as an intermediate step. Researchers and voice-product teams use this to evaluate how end-to-end speech models handle natural dialogue patterns that text-based systems lose.

Emotion and prosody detection

Recognizes and expresses laughter, sarcasm, empathy, and emotional tone in real-time speech. Product strategists testing voice automation prototypes can assess whether emotional authenticity affects user trust and satisfaction in customer service scenarios.

Interruption and backchanneling handling

Responds naturally to overlapping speech, mid-sentence interjections, and listener feedback without waiting for turn-taking cues. Teams building conversational AI can measure how interruption tolerance affects perceived naturalness compared to turn-based models.

Local inference on MacBook Pro M4 Max

Runs speech-to-speech processing entirely on high-end Mac hardware without cloud dependencies or API calls. Researchers avoid third-party usage logging and latency overhead; product teams maintain data privacy during prototype testing.

Speech-only training and learning

Trained exclusively on raw human conversation without text data or pretrained language models. AI research teams can study how efficiently speech-only models acquire language and facts compared to text-based approaches.

What Makes Dessa Different

Unique advantages vs similar tools in this niche

Full-duplex speech model trained only on human conversation

vs Text-based voice AI that loses emotional nuance

Dessa processes audio directly, preserving emotion, timing, and backchanneling that text conversion discards.

Runs locally on MacBook Pro M4 Max

vs Cloud-dependent voice AI services

Inference runs faster than real time on local hardware, eliminating network latency.

Reality Check

Trade-offs & Gotchas

Dessa requires MacBook Pro M4 Max hardware, is available only via waitlist with no published timeline, and is positioned for AI research teams rather than general agency operations. The tool does not integrate with standard agency software (CRM, project management, communication platforms) and offers no transcription or note-taking output suitable for client-facing work.

Core concepts

The mental model you need to price and scope the work.

  1. Residual Labor LedgerConcept

Residual Labor Ledger is a costing discipline: before pricing an AI voice agent retainer, count the human work that survives deployment. Every voice deployment leaves a tail of tasks (transcript review, escalation handling, consent logging, prompt repair after a bad call) and that tail, not the per-minute rate, decides whether the retainer holds margin. The framework asks agencies to log four numbers per client: calls handled without touch, escalations per 100 calls, minutes of human review per call, and cost per resolved call. Trillet's audit-trail design and identity verification reduce the review tail in regulated verticals, while Goodcall-style self-serve builds shift more repair work onto the agency. Forrester's 2027 predictions warn that AI budgets face P&L scrutiny rather than pilot credit, so a retainer priced on usage cost alone will look profitable in month one and thin by month six. Price after the ledger, not before.

  2. Escalation Fidelity ThresholdConcept

Escalation fidelity is the share of calls an AI voice agent routes to the right human, with the right context, at the right moment. It is the number that decides whether an agency voice retainer survives renewal, because a booking agent that handles 80 percent of calls but dumps the remaining 20 percent into a queue without caller history creates more client complaints than a missed call ever did. Measure it before pricing: pull 50 real call recordings, tag every handoff, and count how often the agent recognized the trigger (billing dispute, clinical question, angry caller) and passed a usable summary. Trillet's identity verification and audit trail exist precisely because regulated clients treat a mis-routed handoff as a compliance event, while Goodcall-style inbound capture leans on CRM sync to make the transfer legible. Agencies that quote a flat monthly fee before running this test are pricing blind.

  3. Consent Surface MappingConcept

Consent Surface Mapping treats every call recording, transcript, and outbound dial as a regulated artifact before it is a product feature. The framework asks agencies to chart three surfaces per client: what callers are told at the start of a call, what the voice system stores afterward, and which jurisdictions the calls touch. Each surface caps what the agent is allowed to do, so scope decisions follow disclosure rules rather than the reverse. This matters because voice deployments fail audits on recording consent and outbound dialing rules far more often than on latency or voice quality. A concrete case: Trillet verifies caller identity to compliance standards and keeps a full audit trail, which suits healthcare and legal retainers where an unlogged action is itself the liability. Agencies that map consent first can price a retainer against a defined scope; those that skip it discover the ceiling after the client's counsel reads the call flow.

“👉 Square failed my customer”

👉 Square failed my customer. Then they failed me, a disabled veteran small business owner. On Aug 9, 2025, Square’s app displayed a $25 Visa payment as approved and even prompted for a receipt. After the customer left, the app threw an error and the transaction vanished.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers about pricing, setup, implementation

Dessa is a full-duplex speech-to-speech AI model that conducts real-time voice conversations with emotion, laughter, and natural interruption handling. It runs locally on MacBook Pro M4 Max hardware and was trained exclusively on human speech without text data. It is positioned for AI research labs and voice-AI product teams building customer service automation prototypes, not for general agency productivity or client communication.

Dessa is currently available via waitlist only. No pricing has been published. Access is restricted to researchers and voice-AI product teams during the early-access phase.

AI researchers and voice-product strategists benefit most. Researchers use Dessa to study how speech-only models learn language and handle real-time dialogue compared to text-based systems. Product strategists and founders prototyping voice automation can evaluate how emotion, interruption handling, and natural cadence affect user experience in customer service scenarios. Account executives and project managers do not have relevant workflows for this tool.

Dessa does not save time on standard agency workflows. For AI research teams conducting speech-model evaluation, it may reduce the time spent setting up cloud API calls and managing usage logs by 2-4 hours per week per researcher, but this is not a productivity gain for typical agency operations.

Dessa requires a MacBook Pro M4 Max or better for local inference. There is no cloud option or support for lower-tier devices. Setup involves joining the waitlist and provisioning high-end Mac hardware; no timeline for general availability has been published.

No integrations with standard agency software have been announced. Dessa is a standalone research tool for voice-AI evaluation and does not connect to CRM, communication, or project-management platforms.

No. Dessa produces no text output and is not designed for transcription or documentation. It is a speech-to-speech research model, not a meeting-recording or note-taking tool.

Dessa is currently available via waitlist only. No public launch date or general-availability timeline has been announced. Access is restricted to researchers and voice-AI product teams during early access.
