Semrush
Semrush unites SEO, content marketing, advertising intelligence, and AI search visibility in a single platform built on 17 years of search data. The core offering includes keyword research across 28B keywords, technical site audits, competitor traffic and backlink analysis, content optimization with cannibalization detection, local business listing management, Google and Meta ad analysis, and tracking of brand visibility in LLM outputs (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok). Agencies use Semrush to deliver multi-channel visibility reports, competitive intelligence, and AI search optimization retainers to e-commerce, SaaS, and enterprise marketing teams. The Advanced plan supports up to 40 websites and 5,000 daily keyword tracks, enabling agencies to manage 10+ concurrent client accounts from a single workspace. Native integrations with Adobe, ChatGPT, Google, and Meta allow agencies to embed Semrush data into existing marketing stacks.
Semrush is an SEO tools and services platform, priced at $139/month on the SEO plan, integrating with Adobe, ChatGPT, Lovable, and Google. InnovaAI scores it 6.2/10 for agency resale.
Agency Audit
Semrush combines keyword research across 28B keywords, technical SEO audits, competitor analysis, and AI search visibility tracking in a single platform, with native integrations to Adobe, ChatGPT, Google, and Meta. It's built for SEO agencies, digital marketing agencies, and content teams that need to deliver multi-channel visibility reports and competitive intelligence to clients. The platform supports up to 40 websites and 5,000 daily keyword tracks on the Advanced plan, making it viable for agencies managing 10+ concurrent client accounts. White-label capability is not verified in available documentation, which limits resale positioning. For agencies bundling SEO audits, content optimization, and AI search tracking into retainer services, Semrush can anchor a $200-$400/month per-client offering.

- You manage 8+ concurrent client SEO accounts and need unified keyword tracking, site audits, and competitor backlink analysis without switching between three separate tools.
- Your clients ask for AI search visibility reporting (LLM prompt tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Grok) and you need a single source of truth for that data.
- You deliver content optimization services and want to bundle keyword research, content gap analysis, and cannibalization detection into one client dashboard.
- You need a white-label or fully branded client portal; Semrush does not offer a verified agency reseller program with custom domain or logo-only dashboards.
- Your clients require HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or FedRAMP compliance; Semrush publishes SOC2 Type I certification but no healthcare or payment-card-specific compliance statements.
- You operate a sub-$50K/year agency with fewer than 3 concurrent client projects; the Pro+ plan ($299/mo) or higher is necessary for meaningful multi-client capacity, making per-client margins thin.

Core capabilities of Semrush
Keyword research across 28B keywords
Access a 28-billion-keyword database for competitive keyword discovery, search volume estimation, and difficulty scoring. Agencies use this to identify high-intent keywords for client content strategy and paid search campaigns without licensing a separate keyword tool.
Technical SEO audits and site issue detection
Automated crawls identify on-page, technical, and structural SEO issues (crawlability, indexation, mobile usability, schema markup). Agencies deliver audit reports as a standalone service or bundled with ongoing optimization retainers.
AI search visibility tracking
Monitor brand mentions and visibility in LLM outputs (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok) and track how often client content appears in AI-generated responses. Differentiates Semrush from traditional SEO tools and addresses client concern about AI-driven search behavior.
Competitor traffic and backlink analysis
Analyze competitor organic traffic sources, top-performing pages, and backlink profiles to inform client content strategy and link-building campaigns. Enables agencies to deliver competitive intelligence reports as a retainer add-on.
Content optimization and cannibalization detection
Identify keyword cannibalization across client site pages and receive content optimization recommendations for SEO and readability. Supports agencies delivering content audits and rewrite services.
Local business listing and Google Business Profile management
Centralize local SEO for multi-location clients by monitoring and optimizing Google Business Profile, local citations, and review signals. Essential for agencies serving local service providers and franchise networks.

Bottom Line
Semrush combines keyword research across 28B keywords, technical SEO audits, competitor analysis, and AI search visibility tracking in a single platform, with native integrations to Adobe, ChatGPT, Google, and Meta. It's built for SEO agencies, digital marketing agencies, and content teams that need to deliver multi-channel visibility reports and competitive intelligence to clients. Reality Check
Semrush does not publish a verified white-label or agency reseller program, so client-facing reports and dashboards display Semrush branding. Agencies cannot present the platform as a proprietary tool, limiting differentiation in competitive pitches. Setup and client onboarding require manual configuration per account, with no bulk provisioning API documented.

Why this category matters
The commercial case before the tooling.
Core concepts
The mental model you need to price and scope the work.
- AI Visibility GapConcept
The AI Visibility Gap framework captures the disconnect between a brand's market presence and its appearance in AI-generated answers. A Q2 2026 report found that while AI accurately recognizes 96% of brands, 89% never appear in AI answers. For agencies, this gap represents both a risk and an opportunity: clients paying for traditional SEO retainers may be invisible in the fastest-growing search channel. Closing the gap requires structured, citable content that LLMs can reference, not just keyword-optimized pages. For example, an agency using Surfer for content optimization might shift from title-tag optimization to producing entity-rich, cited paragraphs that answer specific questions. Tools like SE Ranking and Sitechecker now include AI visibility monitoring, but the strategic work lies in auditing client content against AI citability criteria: direct answers, named sources, and verifiable data points. Agencies that bridge this gap can charge premium rates for AI-readiness audits and content restructuring.
- AI Visibility GapConcept
The AI Visibility Gap framework measures the disconnect between a brand's presence in traditional search results and its presence in AI-generated answers. Recent research shows that while 96% of brands are accurately described by AI when asked directly, 89% are never recommended by AI when buyers ask for options. This gap represents lost revenue: clients invisible to AI recommendations miss high-intent traffic that increasingly bypasses traditional blue links. Agencies must bridge this gap by optimizing content for AI citability, ensuring accurate business data across AI training sources, and building entity authority. Tools like SE Ranking now track AI visibility, while platforms like Surfer help create content structured for AI extraction. The framework urges agencies to shift from rank tracking to AI presence monitoring, making AI visibility a core deliverable in retainers.
- Citation Surface AreaConcept
Citation Surface Area is the measure of how many distinct, machine-readable answers a client's content exposes to AI crawlers and answer engines. As AI overviews and agentic search absorb clicks, ranking position alone no longer predicts visibility; instead, the depth and structure of topical clusters determine whether a brand gets cited. For agencies, this reframes SEO delivery from optimizing title tags to architecting content that answers direct questions with clear, citable statements. For example, a client with fewer than five substantial pieces per topic cluster risks citation loss, while those with comprehensive, accessible content capture higher-intent traffic. Tools like Surfer and SE Ranking help identify gaps, but the strategic judgment to build authority clusters remains the agency's defensible value.
Decision and risk
How to judge the fit, and the ways it goes wrong.
- SEO Tools Rule: Prioritize AI Visibility Over Traditional RankingsEvaluation Rule
Choose tools that measure and optimize for AI answer inclusion, not just keyword rankings.
- SEO Rule: Sell Strategy, Not Title TagsEvaluation Rule
Position SEO as a strategic service that combines AI-driven content production, programmatic SEO, and entity authority building, not as a tool subscription.
- White-Label Fulfillment vs In-House Tool Stack for SEO AgenciesDecision Framework
If your agency lacks in-house SEO specialists or wants to scale delivery without hiring, then resell white-label services from platforms like SEOReseller or The HOTH. If you have expert staff and need to differentiate on strategy and custom execution, then invest in a multi-tool stack (e.g., SE Ranking, Sitechecker, Surfer) and own the output.

What agencies say about Semrush
“Solved my case”
Great customer experience and nice support team - thank you!
Read on Trustpilot“I've emailed the Semrush team 6 times…”
I've emailed the Semrush team 6 times over the past 8 weeks requesting that we cancel our account with them. They continue to charge us $1,799 without our approval. Stay away from this business.
Read on Trustpilot“Semrush has a deliberately misleading…”
Semrush has a deliberately misleading cancellation process designed to charge you an extra month. When I canceled my account I received an email that I understood to be a confirmation, but there was a hidden confirmation button that needed to be clicked to actually complete the cancellation. Easy to miss, and I believe intentionally so. I was charged for a month I did not want or use and their support team refused to issue a refund. I have never encountered such a dishonest cancellation process with any other company. With this kind of company philosophy I would never return to their products. I value honesty and transparency in the companies I work with and Semrush has shown neither. This is simply not the kind of company you want to do business with. Very disappointing experience.

Answers about pricing, setup, implementation
Semrush is an all-in-one platform for SEO, content marketing, advertising, and AI visibility. It combines keyword research across 28B keywords, technical site audits, competitor analysis, content optimization, local business listing management, social media scheduling, Google and Meta ad analysis, and AI search visibility tracking. Agencies use it to deliver competitive intelligence, keyword strategy, technical audits, and AI search optimization services to clients.
Semrush offers 6 pricing tiers, starting at $117.33/mo billed annually (SEO) up to $455.67/mo billed annually (Advanced). Agencies typically achieve 65% profit margins when reselling to clients.
No verified white-label program is documented. Client-facing surfaces, dashboards, and reports display the Semrush brand. Agencies cannot present Semrush as a proprietary or custom-branded tool to end clients, which limits resale positioning and differentiation.
Yes. Semrush has native integrations with Adobe and ChatGPT. The platform also integrates with Google, Meta, Lovable, and ZoomInfo. Integration depth and setup requirements vary by partner; consult Semrush documentation or sales for specific API or native connector details.
Setup time depends on the number of websites and keywords to configure. Initial agency account setup takes 15-30 minutes; each new client sub-account requires manual configuration of websites, keywords, and tracking preferences, typically 10-20 minutes per account once the parent account is active. Bulk provisioning via API is not documented.
Semrush is best suited for e-commerce stores, SaaS companies, digital-first service providers, and enterprise marketing teams. It excels for clients with multi-location operations (local SEO), competitive paid search environments, and content-heavy businesses. Mid-market B2B and B2C companies with $1M+ annual revenue and active organic and paid search budgets see the most ROI from the platform.
The Advanced plan supports up to 40 websites across all sub-accounts. If you manage more than 40 client websites, you will need to purchase multiple Advanced plans or upgrade to Enterprise. The Pro+ plan supports 15 websites, making it suitable for agencies with 5-10 concurrent client projects.
Semrush does not publish a verified multi-tenant reporting feature or white-label client portal. Agencies must export reports manually or use the native Semrush dashboard, which displays Semrush branding. For agencies requiring fully branded client portals, a third-party reporting layer (e.g., Data Studio, Looker) will be necessary.
